How to Increase Your Energy Levels

With the pressure of every day life taking its toll on many people, having a head start when it comes to energy is a good thing. In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle it is essential to devote at least 30 minutes per day to cardio vascular activity. The type of exercise that you carry out does not have to be strenuous, but by carrying out a regular routine you can dramatically increase your energy levels.

Cardio vascular or aerobic activity will help to increase blood flow and therefore the amount of oxygen being carried to the heart, the muscles and to other vital organs. This will cause your metabolism to speed up and burn more fat than usual, thus increasing energy levels. By allowing this to happen the BMR or Basal Metabolic Rate will increase causing more fat cells to be burned thus aiding weight loss. The BMR varies from individual to individual and is a measure of the metabolic rate at rest.

Having more energy in the body can help reduce stress levels, and since this is a rather unhealthy factor in most people’s lives this is an added benefit to have more energy. There are many factors which influence stress, ranging from career issues, family commitments and finances; to name but a few. The link between stress and illness is well known, and thus any means of addressing it are recommended. Stress can be dealt with much better if the energy levels are higher.

Things To Remember

  1. You should be exercising for at least thirty minutes each day to increase your metabolism and energy.
  2. Exercising will help you be able to handle and reduce stress.
  3. Your energy will only be sustained for as long as you keep exercising. If you stop the levels will fall, so they need to be replenished with a daily routine.

Types Of Exercise

The recommended light cardio vascular exercises that you choose to do each and every day only need to encourage a good rate of blood flow. Two excellent light aerobic exercises are walking and stretching. Walking does not place stress on the joints and cause any wear or tear to the muscles and tendons. Increasing the speed will affect the amount of fat that is being burned by the body, and results in what is known as the ‘Speed Walk’. Stretching can have added aerobic benefits too when it is performed quickly, with a pause between each exercise step. Yoga and Tai chi are good examples of stretching and are powerful tools to boost your energy and speed up your metabolism. Other methods of increasing the metabolic rate can come from gentle swimming and cycling.
