Flood and severe weather warnings across Britain

Flood warnings are in place across Wales and parts of England as heavy rain continues to fall this afternoon.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings and the Environment Agency has announced 31 flood warnings in south and west Wales as well as south-west England, two of which are severe.

Some areas across Britain are expected to receive more than two weeks worth of rainfall in the next 24 hours.

Today reports suggest 40mm of rain has already fallen in Caerphilly, south Wales, and Exmoor.

Rescue services in Wales have been received three-times as many flood-related calls today with some people becoming trapped by the rising waters.

Arriva Trains is advising people in south-east Wales not to travel by train as services are severely disrupted by the rain and flooding.

Last year, wide-scale flooding led to the death of 11 people and cost an estimated £2 billion in damages.
